When Ariana Madix was first announced as the host of Love Island USA, the reaction was mixed. Fans of Vanderpump Rules knew her well; the general public was still getting acquainted. Two seasons later, that calculus has completely flipped. Madix is now one of the most celebrated elements of the show — warm, quick, and genuinely invested in the islanders in a way that translates through the screen.
"The first season I was terrified, honestly," she tells Loud Drip ahead of the Season 8 premiere. "I knew the show, I'd watched it, but being the person who has to hold the whole thing together live — that's different. I made mistakes. I learned. Season two was better. Season three, I finally feel like I belong here."
On the Season 8 Cast
Madix is predictably careful about spoilers but describes this year's islanders as "the most real group we've had." She's particularly enthusiastic about the interpersonal dynamics that emerge in the first week. "There are people this season who surprised me. And I watch every episode — I know everything that's happening. They still surprised me."
On Life After Vanderpump
The question of Vanderpump Rules comes up inevitably, and Madix handles it with the grace of someone who has made genuine peace with her past. "That chapter made me who I am. I'm not running from it." She smiles. "I'm just also this now. Both things are true."
